Things To Consider

• You’ll want to keep gravel paths from being too close to your house’s entry ways–as this can result in bits of gravel coming inside the house on the bottoms of shoes.
• Also avoid areas where snow shoveling is likely to occur, as gravel will likely accumulate wherever you pile your snow–and you’ll be making extra work for yourself come spring.
• Some kind of border is usually a good idea. This can be brick, or any other suitable stone, used along the edges of the path to contain the gravel and keep it from spreading into the lawn.
• A good, quality landscape fabric is an essential part of site preparation. This will form an important weed barrier and significantly lower the maintenance requirements over the life of your path.

At additional cost, flagstone can be utilized for a more substantial, "finished" look. There are a variety of suitable materials to choose from as you consider the design of your path.
